Association Conseil pour le Développement (ACOD лєtaaso)

ACOD supported community based orgnisations in the area of micro-finance.  To this end, ACOD lent its support to seven self-managed rural savings and credit banks in the Koulikoro region. These rural banks regroup more than 1,400 shareholders of which 705 are women that is, 50%.  Activities undertaken by ACOD involved training of managers of the banks, support to  management, accounting and equipment.  ACOD nietaaso provided strong boxes to the banks, at an amount of 5,600,000 CFA francs.

ACOD also executed a pilot programme on the marketing of high quality animals. Activities carried out under this program, included:

-         preparation of a business plan for conducting cattle fattening activity for each enterprise;

-         preparation of a communication and marketing plan to assist cooperatives in the commercialization of fattened animals;

-         monitoring animal purchases by businesses (purchasing committees)

-         training in calculating cost of production and determination of selling prices;

-         establishing a relationship with COBAS (which has marketing fund) and other agro-enterprises.

-         Preparation of business accounts and their presentation to members;

-         Support to and monitoring repayments of loans to the National Development and Agricultural Bank.

The result of these activities was that 10,000,000 CFA francs was realized from the marketing of animals. The funding was put in place by the Agro Enterprise Centre through the National Development and Agricultural Bank, which was responsible for monitoring the repayments.

Four cooperatives realised a profit of 2,989,675 CFA francs. The fifth cooperative suffered a loss due to the seizure of a portion of its animals following a dispute with a third party.

Apart from the financial benefits, the cooperatives were able to improve the infrastructure for fattening of livestock, and developed partnership relations among agro-enterprises.
